M2’s Journey
M2 Additive Manufacturing LLC was started in 2018 in Erie, Pennsylvania originally operating under the name HPG Industries. The company was founded by three Penn State Engineering graduates, Mike Paul, Michael Gibilterra, and Ryan Hutchinson, who set out to develop a solution for printing more flexible materials than any other company was capable of.
In early August 2019, Ryan Hutchinson left then HPG Industries. Shortly after, M2 Additive tied for first place in the Ben Franklin Technologies Techcelerator@Erie business accelerator program, granting the seed money to start the initial phase prototyping and materials research. As a result of this win, the doors were opened for M2 Additive to partner with various regional companies, including: Penn State Behrend, ExxonMobil Lake Erie Rubber, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Erie Insurance, and the Gannon SBDC to start developing the BeltXTruder.
In September 2020, M2 Additive was awarded the patent for the BeltXTruder, which is the technology to print extremely flexible filaments. In December 2020 Michael Gibilterra left the company as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic. M2 Additive moved to Butler, Pennsylvania, the Hometown of Mike Paul.
In December 2021, M2 Additive expanded its capabilities and opened a dedicated public-facing division focused on providing 3D Printing and Product Development services. This addition opened direct access to professional-grade additive manufacturing for inventors, small businesses, and organizations. The expansion allowed the company to apply its high-performance materials expertise and technical precision to a broader range of consumer and commercial projects.
Today, M2 Additive continues to expand the capabilities of the BeltXTruder, while delivering high-quality 3D printing services, engineering support, and consulting to clients across a wide range of industries.
